Council keeps City Hall vote ‘tabled’

By Mark Maroney 2 min read

Williamsport City Council further delayed taking any vote on an agreement of sale of former City Hall with JBAS Realty, which offered the high responsive bid of $555,500 for the building.

No discussion took place as Mayor Derek Slaughter and most of the administration were not at the meeting.

Previously, council asked Slaughter for a long-range plan on where city government offices will be located.

Slaughter said he can't provide that without first getting city financial records, with pending state and federal investigations, including a special audit from the Federal Transit Administration and unknown amount of debt.

Council, however, took some actions.

It voted on first reading to vacate a street portion of northern 132 Seventh Ave., which the city no longer will maintain.

Council held a public hearing first before taking the vote.

The street has numerous dead trees and limbs that are falling on local properties, according to Gary Knarr, city zoning administrator.

The street will not be developed, he said.

In other matters, council approved a resolution for an ADA Accessibility Inspector/Plans Reviewer designating Barry Isett & Associates of Wilkes-Barre.

A resolution was set for when the council will hold meetings next year.

It is expected those dates will be listed on the city website.
