The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania recently approved about $1.02 million in grants to 10 individual organizations through the Williamsport Lycoming Competitive Grant Program.
According to a news release, requests in excess of $2.1 million were considered through the summer/fall grant cycle. Williamsport Lycoming Regional Advisory Board members worked with foundation staff to determine the most advantageous uses of the funding. Service area, population, sustainability, community support, need and adherence to the grant criteria were considered for each proposal.
The 2023 grantees are:
• County of Lycoming, $250,000 -- purchase, renovation, and outfitting of a facility for the Lycoming County Coroner's Office and its services;
• River Valley Regional YMCA, $250,000 -- phase one expansion of the Eastern Lycoming Branch that will add 7,750 square feet to the facility for additional infant and toddler care classrooms and offices for childcare staff and double the wellness space;
• STEP Inc., $119,283 -- build of a new transportation facility to house their fleet of 52 share-ride vehicles as well as an office and training space for drivers;
• Family Promise of Lycoming County Inc., $100,000 -- repurposing of the former Castellano Center on Park Avenue into a Community Center that will hold various social service partners and programs, including Shepherd of the Streets and Little One's Clothing Closet;
• Pennsylvania College of Technology, $75,000 -- Lycoming County Prison-to-College Program offering the ENL010 Communications course at no cost for inmates at the Lycoming County Pre-Release Center in order to move towards completion of a certificate program;
• Child Hunger Outreach Partners, $70,000 -- In-School Pantry and Take-Home Backpack program for food insecure students at Hughesville, Montgomery and Williamsport Area School Districts;
• American Rescue Workers, $42,626 -- replacement of old and deteriorated furniture at the Saving Grace emergency shelter;
• West Branch Arts Consortium, $18,000 -- artists-in-residence/arts literacy programs with national and international musical and dance groups for Jersey Shore, Muncy and Loyalsock Township School Districts;
• DuBoistown Fire Department, $16,515 -- replacement of an unmanned aerial rescue drone, deemed inoperable following new FAA regulations;
