JERSEY SHORE -- On the recommendation of the capital projects committee, the Jersey Shore Area School board approved projects involving three school buildings, while committing to stay within the $1 million budget available.
The projects given the okay by the board at this week's meeting include: senior high school CTE shop ventilation; Avis Elementary DDC HVAC control and replace the heating plant and Salladasburg Elementary, replace the heating plant, domestic water heater and boiler pump.
Polling Place Agreement and ADA Construction Agreement between Lycoming County and the District, effective through Dec. 31, 2026 was approved by the board. Superintendent Dr. Brian Ulmer stressed that the Administration Building is the only facility affected by the use of a district facility as a polling site.
A request for a budget transfer of $4,500 for wrestling equipment was approved. The transfer includes $1,000 from basketball supplies; $1,000 from cheerleading supplies; $500 from football supplies; and $2,000 from general athletic supplies. The funds were needed to purchase a new mat for the wrestling program.
Other items approved by the board included: a petition for a new high school club, the Mock Trial Club, with Tanner Shade to be paid a stipend of $408 as club adviser; a Unified Champion Schools MOU between the district and Special Olympics Pennsylvania effective through June 30, 2024, which will bring Interscholastic Unified Sports, specifically bocce, to the district; an agreement with Henry Dunn Inc. for benefit consulting services; an MOU for sheltering and mass care facilities for students during emergencies; and the placement of decommissioned items for sale on Municibid, including two pallets of miscellaneous Cisco phone equipment and a pallet of desktops.
If no bids are received, items will be disposed of.
Under personnel actions, the board approved the following: a correction to a stipend amount for Brenda Lorson elementary learning support mentor, at a stipend of $510; Ashley Lehman and Dallas Kurtz, game staff for the athletic department; Lisa Ely, lunch monitor for the Middle School, $12 per hour; Luke Ellison, volunteer wrestling coach; Michele Hensler, high school secretary at a pay rate of $36,246 per year; Mikayla Rich, assistant swim coach and lifeguard at a stipend of $2,656; Lisa Enders, K-2 life skills paraprofessional at Jersey Shore Elementary at a pay rate of $19,776 per year; Stacy Younkin, food service substitute, $12 per hour; and Robin Tressler, part-time food service position, $12.75 per hour.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m., Nov. 13 at the District Administration Building, 175 A&P Drive.
