Loyalsock Township officials set rules, schedule for leaf pick ups

Loyalsock Township street crews say they are going to be picking up leaves starting Oct. 30.
Leaves are going to be picked up with a leaf vac on township streets that are curbed and not on any private roads, according to supervisors.
Areas without curbs must bag their leaves and then call the township office at 570-323-6151 to have them picked up.
Areas with curbs must rake the leaves (not bagged) to the street side of the curb a day or two prior to the date for collection in the area, leaving 6 to 12 inches between the curb and leaves. The gap should allow water to reach the storm drain during rain, but not so far into the street as to hamper traffic, officials said.
Leaves lying in the street for long periods of time cause a safety hazard as well as clog storm drains.
Do not set out grass clippings, flowers or vegetable garden residue for pick up.
Do not mix branches with leaves for pick up. The branches can jam up the leaf vac causing a delay.
If possible, do not park vehicles along the street during the scheduled pick up times. Those with mulch keys can bring their leaves to the pile.
Bagging the leaves is permitted but the leaves must be taken out of the bags at the pile. No bags may be left at the pile. The pile is open Monday through Sunday 8 a.m. to dusk prior to Nov. 13. After that time, the pile is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If needed and weather permitting, the township will go back and clean up the remaining leaves immediately following the schedule.
