Lycoming Engines' nearly 370 union workers have ratified a new five-year contract, company officials said.

The contract was approved by United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Local 787, a company spokesman said in a prepared statement.

Members of the UAW 787 Union voted and approved the agreement recently, which covers over 365 employees working in Williamsport at the Oliver Street plant, plant officials said.

The contract is effective immediately, company officials said.

The union workers have worked without a contract since late in July, union officials said.

"We are pleased the members of UAW Local 787 have accepted the offer by Lycoming Engines, which has a strong partnership with the union and their membership and fully supports the collective bargaining process and serving our customers and our community," said Shannon Massey, senior vice president of Lycoming Engines.

The company specializes in engineering manufacturing, service and support of piston aircraft engines.

Lycoming Engines is a subsidiary of AVCO Corp., a Textron company.

Negotiations began in April.
