The East Lycoming School Board at its recent meeting took steps toward upgrading buildings and infrastructure as part of the district's capital project needs and voted to fill a vacant school director seat.
The board approved ongoing civil engineering design work by Larson Design Group for a topographical survey of stormwater management improvements of the Hughesville campus and restoration roof work at the high school and at Ashkar Elementary School by WeatherProofing Technologies Inc. at a cost of $5.7 million.
School directors also gave final approval to McClure Co. to replace HVAC and electrical systems as well as windows at Ashkar to facilitate energy improvement at a cost of $6.34 million.
An agreement with Fedevia Construction Management and Consulting for management of capital projects was approved.
The board appointed Rikki Riegner to the open board seat for Region 1 covering Picture Rocks as well as Wolf, Shrewsbury, and Mill Creek townships.
Riegner, of Wolf Township, is the executive director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
She replaces Matt Pendrak, who stepped down from the board in October.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Stamm thanked longtime board members Richard Michael and Donna Gavitt for their service to the district.
Michael, who serves as board president, is stepping down as a school director after 32 years of service. Gavitt, who served on the board for 20 years, lost her seat in a re-election bid.
The board approved a contract with Joseph Carey for timber consulting services.
Stamm explained that dangerously overhanging trees on school district property near the Little League ball fields are being considered for removal.
The board acted on various personnel matters.
The resignation of Chastity Schomburg, food service worker at Ashkar, was accepted by school directors.
The board voted to hire the following personnel:
• Amy Barto, part-time supervisory aide, high school, $13.29 per hour.
• Mary Wayman, part-time food service worker, Renn Elementary School, $13.29 per hour.
• Greg Hendrickson, bus driver.
• Cheryl Charles, van driver.
• Denise Taylor, van driver and aide.
• Kristopher Shaner, eighth grade boys basketball coach, $1,526 stipend.
• Robert Perry, event staff and game worker.
• Trey Smith, event staff.
The following were approved as guest teachers: Brittany Daugherty, Loretta Day, Sheila DuMont, Christie Mann, Piper Schwenk, and Kaylee Wade.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 for reorganization purposes.
