Jersey Shore superintendent’s contract extended for five years

By Pat Crossley 2 min read

JERSEY SHORE -- A five-year contract for Superintendent Dr. Brian Ulmer was approved by the Jersey Shore Area School Board at their meeting this week.

The contract runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2029, and includes an annual base salary of $142,600 with a 2.5% annual adjustment based on a satisfactory evaluation by the board.

The board also voted to stay within the Act 1 index for formulating their budget for next year. The index for the 2024-2025 fiscal year is 7.3%, which means that the district will not raise taxes above that percentage. It does not mean that the district has decided to raise taxes, only that it will not go above that amount if they do.

"We're in line with other districts in the county," said Ben Enders, the district's business manager, referring to the index.

"Just to be clear to the public, this does not authorize the increase in real estate taxes...this sets the parameters that you will not go above the 7.3%," he said.

The following personnel items were approved by the board: the appointment of Kaamal Barnes as head boys' Junior High basketball coach, at a stipend of $3,494; the transfer of Apryle Kemmerer from a part-time food service position to a part-time High School lunch monitor position at $12 per hour; Brandon Davidson as a volunteer swim coach; the appointment of Joseph Dunn as head baseball coach, at a stipend of $4,868; Raven Derr as a volunteer wrestling coach; and the appointment of Jamie Dunlap, as a 10-month building secretary at Avis Elementary.

The following positions for the Middle School drama production were given the OK: lighting, Nichole Bechdel, $383; stage manager, Brenna Hoffman, $383; public relations, Monica Richards and Vikki Allen, $191.50 each; production set and design, Mike Harvey, $574; and sound, Quinn Henry, $383.

A letter of resignation from Robert Fox, head girls' track coach, was also accepted by the board.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m., Dec. 4 at the District's Administration Building, 175 A&P Drive.
