Williamsport City Council's public works committee discussed streets with the public works team and city engineer Bill Scott, as the asphalt plants prepare to close for the winter ahead of Thanksgiving.
Dave Columbine, city public works excavation inspector, discussed one issue of incompletion from East Third to Catherine Street.
The work did not go all the way to the city line, leaving one block undone, according to Councilwoman Bonnie Katz, committee chair.
The crew is done on Third Street and could be called back in 2024, Columbine said. Ronca, the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority subcontractor, has three cuts in the block, he said.
If it can't be finished up this year, it will be put on next year's milling and paving schedule to finish up.
Katz said it was necessary for the committee and public to know what streets are closed for paving, as she said she is getting calls from individuals who are trying to maneuver around the city, because all of the street crews were scrambling to get done before the asphalt plants close.
Scott said the paving was completed as were line paintings. The paving contract for this year is complete.
Katz said she wanted to have the public aware of what streets will be closed and to continue to work with utilities, such as water authority, to make sure coordination is done.
"That is a very important thing," Scott said. "We are on schedule for what was to be accomplished this year with streets?" Katz asked.
Scott Livermore, city director of public works, said Glenn O. Hawbaker was a month late because of rain but the weather changed and they got everything done on schedule.
Councilman Randy Allison asked if a stretch of Hollywood Circle will be done next year.
Livermore said he would make sure it will go through winter and it will be put on the next year's schedule.
When laying out plans, the streets are to be advertised in the newspaper and on social media.
"If it has not been done, it will be," Scott said.
