SUNBURY -- After state police investigated a pair of fatal shootings at 844 Malta Road in Lower Mahanoy Township in Northumberland County's district attorney said the second shooting was self-defense and charges will not be filed.
Troopers responded Tuesday to a report of a known female juvenile who told the troopers that her father, Tracey Adams, 47, of Dalmatia, shot her step-sister, Brandi Hauck, 31, also of Dalmatia.
The female juvenile told police that her juvenile brother then shot Adams in self-defense, according to a news release.
Troopers arrived at the scene and secured the scene and parties shortly after 5 p.m. Monday. The troopers then conducted an initial security sweep of the residence and discovered Adams and Hauck deceased inside, according to the news release.
Through investigation, it was discovered that a verbal and physical altercation had taken place earlier in the evening between Christina Adams, Tracey Adams and the known juvenile female at 846 Adams Road.
Christina Adams and the female juvenile were able to escape the residence and fled to Brandi Hauck's residence on Malta Road, where Hauck and the juvenile male were located, police said.
Tracey Adams then drove to the Malta Road address and approached the front door of the home, brandishing a pistol. Brandi Hauck demanded that Tracey Adams leave the residence, police said.
Adams then shot Hauck through the front door of the residence, police allege.
Hauck sustained a fatal injury and succumbed to her wounds on the scene, police said.
Adams declared his intention to kill everyone within the residence, police said.
Adams then forced his way into the residences with his firearm drawn. The juvenile male shielded the juvenile female and Christina Adams behind him and shot Tracey Adams as he advanced toward him, police said. Tracey Adams succumbed to his injuries scene, police noted.
Northumberland County District Attorney Michael O'Donnell responded to the scene and declined criminal charges against the male juvenile due to the nature of the shooting being self-defense and the preservation of life.
