An officer with the Williamsport Bureau of Police has been placed on administrative leave, according to a report Sunday by PennLive.com.
The decision follows an incident early Sunday morning in which the officer, Brandon Wheeler, allegedly used a racial slur during an arrest at Third and William streets.
Police Chief Justin Snyder told PennLive.com that there will be an internal investigation into the incident, which was recorded at least in part and posted to social media, either by participants in the confrontation or bystanders.
In the recording, police state the arrest of the unidentified individual was for disorderly conduct.
"No question, it was a critically inappropriate word to use," Tom Marino, who was elected Lycoming County's district attorney in November of 2023, told PennLive.com.
Marino also told PennLive.com he believes the incident indicates that police need additional training.
