The Williamsport Bureau of Fire headquarters on Walnut Street continues to see improvements inside and out and more are on the way.
This week, fire administrators will present the City Council with a resolution regarding a fire grant the bureau was notified it was successful in receiving last year.
The 2023 grant was for $20,000 and the bureau was approved for $16,951, according to Fire Chief Sam Aungst, speaking with the city public safety committee earlier.
With the money, which requires no matching funds, the bureau intends to have a contractor add new flooring and interior painting of the fire headquarters on Walnut Street, he said.
The bureau also will present the council with a request to amend a part of the fire prevention code related to fees.
The bureau does community outreach for third-party entities not related to the city, according to Assistant Chief Keith Lucas, discussing this with the public safety committee.
This involves CRP and first aid training for companies, he said.
Some of these companies are beyond the city and the bureau is requesting updating its fee schedule to offset these costs, he said.
Moreover, the fee schedule amendment includes an increase in fees related to responding to motor vehicle accidents.
