The City of Williamsport is seeking proposals for the performance of city and labor legal services including police, fire and general city services, with members of City Council already expressing how they hoped a firm from outside of the city would apply and be considered.
This solicitor would be in a five-year agreement subject to annual review and proposals are being accepted through 2 p.m. March 8 by the city clerk at the office at 100 W. Third St.
The city's long-time solicitor, Norman Lubin, has retired, with Austin White of McCormick Law Firm serving as the sole solicitor until the second solicitor is hired.
Councilwoman Liz Miele, chair of the finance committee, has expressed her desire to look into whether an associate or junior attorney could be used for meetings, as it would save the city money based on the hourly pay rate for law firm partners.
Additionally, she and Councilman Randy Allison expressed their desire to interview and consider hiring a firm from outside of the city or even outside of Lycoming County with the appropriate experience to avoid any conflicts that arise sometimes in legal avenues.
