The City of Williamsport public works department will be replacing two older trucks with new pick-ups for work after a recent council decision.
Council authorized Scott Livermore, department general manager, to purchase a 2024 Ford F-250 XL pick-up truck and a 2024 Ford F-350 XLT pick-up truck from John Stuckey Ford Inc., Hollidaysburg. Under the co-star contract the cost is $123,296 and will be using American Rescue Plan funds, Livermore said.
In separate votes, council approved a right-of-way agreement for PPL Utilities as part of providing more power for the Central Area Fire Chiefs Association at the training grounds near the West Third Street levee area.
Council also:
• Authorized a company called Kaseya to provide a network penetration testing solution for a period of 36 months. The cost for year one is $6,520 and years two and three at a cost of $5,976. Kaseya will consistently try to "hack" into the city computers to discover any weakness or areas where the protection in place is working. Payment for the contract will be taken from information technologies contracted services budget, according to Kris Black, city IT coordinator.
• Passed a resolution authorizing amendment to an agreement for legal services with the City Solicitor Austin White. White's firm, McCormick Law, had in the agreement a clause allowing for such changes anytime during the agreement which was for up to five years. The rate increase is about an average of $25 per hour and is commensurate with what the firm is charging the county and is due to increased workloads with the retirement of another city solicitor Norm Lubin. The administration is preparing a request for proposals for a second solicitor and that RFP will go before council for review in coming weeks, Mayor Derek Slaughter said.
• Approved a resolution awarding an agreement between city and Choice Carpet Cleaners.
• Authorized a letter of engagement for East Burn & Gray, PC and and a resolution approved for tax collection committee delegate appointments.
The next council meeting is 7 p.m. at Trade and Transit Centre II on Feb. 15. The meetings also are broadcast live and recorded on digital format using YouTube.
