Gas prices surging as March nears
The price for regular gasoline at the pumps in the Greater Williamsport area is about 25 cents higher this week than a month ago, according to AAA.
Current cost for regular on average is $3.56 per gallon compared to a month ago when it was $3.32 per gallon (pg).
During late spring, specifically on June 12, 2022, gas rose to $5.07 per gallon on average.
The surge recently was attributed to a power outage causing a shutdown of a large BP – Whiting refinery in Indiana. This issue was expected to correct itself, once power was restored, according to AAA.
Pump prices normally are higher this time of year and the lowest prices again were at Sam’s Clubs and Exxon at Harvest Moon on Arch Street in Williamsport.
The county’s average price was $3.56 pg, with the state averaging $3.53 pg, and the national average at $3.27 pg.
AAA updates its prices daily and noted on a state map of counties how Lycoming is in the mid-range in terms of price, with eastern counties the lowest from $3.38 to $3.46 pg.
Nationally, crude oil prices were up 50 cents per barrel to $78.11 cents per barrel
Finding a favorite quality bargain gas price and station can save a customer $250 a year on gas depending on driving habits.
