State Rep. Jamie Flick seeks reelection to House

3 min read

Local Republican businessman and state Rep. Jamie Flick, who represents parts of Lycoming and Union counties in the state House, intends to seek re-election to the state House, according to a news release from his campaign.

"Rep. Flick quickly learned how to navigate Harrisburg politics his freshmen term and has earned a reputation of being a consistent and successful advocate for his district in Harrisburg, bringing home $8.4 million dollars in state grants his first year in office," said the news release from his campaign.

Flick helped pass a bill that increases access to playgrounds for children and families with disabilities, and has introduced legislation that aims to achieve the following: eliminate emissions testing for Lycoming County and similar sized counties; provide line-of-duty death benefits for coroners and deputy coroners; change requirements for temporary substitute teachers from a four-year degree to a two-year degree and ensure fairness for children in custody disputes by enacting a shared parenting law.

In addition, the news release said, he supports proposed legislation to strengthen voter ID, reduce the size of state government, reduce property taxes for veterans and senior citizens and create Supreme Court term limits.

"It is an honor serving you as state representative," Flick said, according to the news release. "Every day, I look for opportunities to advocate for our district and support commonsense laws in Harrisburg that will help us here at home."

Flick currently serves on five committees including: Children and Youth, Game and Fisheries, Government Oversight, Human Services and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development. Additionally, he has joined several caucuses including Mental Health, Energy and Manufacturing and is a co-founder of the Meet Me In The Middle Caucus.

"It is important to me to find common ground, especially in government and representing the good people of Pennsylvania," Flick said, according to the news release. "I created the Meet Me in the Middle Caucus, which is a caucus where my colleagues from both sides of the aisle, come together and work on timely issues such as strengthening our mental health system and finding ways to support our children."

In July, Rep. Flick announced he opted not to receive his paycheck until the state budget fully passed. The news release said he believes in smaller government, and living by example, chooses not to receive the pension, 401k, per diem and meal reimbursement benefits available to those who hold this office. In addition, Flick does not accept or receive campaign money or contributions from businesses, special interest groups, super PACs or lobbyists.

A graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Technology with a degree in Software Engineering, Flick started his career as a systems analyst and software developer for GTE Sylvania. He then launched his own company, Susquehanna Software Inc., which ranks as the No. 1 selling Human Services software in the state of Pennsylvania. As a community volunteer, Flick developed a reputation for being a "go-to guy," the news release said, through seeking out opportunities to help with a vast number and variety of needs. His volunteerism has encompassed current and past roles including mentor and advocate for Foster children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate; president and founder of the South Williamsport Community Park Association; president, board member and volunteer of South Williamsport Little League for more than 20 years; team "uncle" and host for the Little League World Series and Odyssey of the Mind coach, among others.

Flick also served as an adjunct professor of computer science and data analytics at Penn College.
