The City of Williamsport will send three delegates to the Tax Collection Committee as representatives.
Kevin Mackey, city treasurer and tax collector, is the primary voting delegate. Heather Jacoby, city finance director, is first alternate voting delegate and Jamie Livermore, city budget and fiscal officer, is second alternate voting delegate.
A state law requires the governing bodies of school districts, townships, boroughs, and cities to appoint one voting delegate and one or more alternate delegates to be their Tax Collection Committee representatives.
These appointments are done each year in November or December or soon after and put the city in the position of having a vote on that committee regarding tax collection issues.
The city council recently approved a letter of engagement for East Burn & Gray PC to ensure compliance with the city's mercantile and business privilege tax.
Jennifer Brown of the company will provide any and all future services, according to Mackey. Another resolution was needed because Brown switched companies.
"Brown has been a very gracious help to me throughout the past two years," Mackey said.
Brown, working with Mackey, has helped to increase collection in tax revenue in these areas.
Additionally, Brown has helped Mackey in giving professional advice on certain items related to the taxes.
The rate is $300 per hour and for paralegals it is $175 per hour, Mackey said. Brown is used when needed and her help has always been well warranted, Mackey noted.
