$1 million in state funding awarded for area projects

More than $1 million in state funding has been awarded to two projects in Lycoming and Union counties through the offices of two state lawmakers.

The largest award went to Clinton Township, which received $617,000 for improvements along Pinchtown Road.

Additionally, Union County received $475,000 for the replacement of six municipal bridges located in New Berlin Borough and Hartley, Lewis, West Buffalo and White Deer townships.

"This grant will help us to complete needed improvements to one of the two most heavily traveled, municipal-owned roads in Clinton Township," Holly Wertz, Clinton Township secretary and treasurer, said, according to a news release.

Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, and Flick, R-South Williamsport, said there was a combined $1,092,000 in state funding has been awarded to two projects in Lycoming and Union counties through Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The awards were considered at the CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority's Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) program.

"Maintaining and improving our roads, bridges, and local streetscapes is an essential component of ensuring the safety and mobility of residents and other commuters who travel them each day," Yaw said, according to the news release. "I was pleased to work with Flick and our local officials to help make these projects a reality."

"It's gratifying to witness this funding directed towards roadway projects in our community," Flick said, according to the news release. "I'm pleased to have worked with Yaw on this initiative as we continue our focus on helping our municipalities upgrade and improve critical infrastructure that supports our residents and businesses."

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to Pennsylvanians. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement and other projects.
