Commonwealth University students to host ‘fun day’ at Firetree Field

Students from Commonwealth University's Lock Haven, Mansfield and Bloomsburg campuses will be helping Williamsport on Thursday.

"Williamsport is part of our community," Ralph Godbolt, one of the coordinators for the event, said. He noted Williamsport is right in the middle of Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Mansfield.

The students will start with a day of service at YWCA of Northcentral Pa. Godbolt said they will tour the facility and meet with YWCA staff about the work the organization does. Additionally, students will help, clean, paint, stock shelves -- "whatever they need us to do," Godbolt said.

He said the morning will start with a donation of supplies to Wise Options and that the student want to show appreciation for everything the YWCA does.

Afterwards, at 1 p.m. at Firetree Field at 600 Campbell St., the students will host a "fun day," including games, face painting, music and a concession stand.

Godbolt said the group of students wanted to reach out to Williamsport after hearing about the incidents of violence in the past few weeks. He noted many of the students themselves come from communities that face similar challenges and said overall the goal is to "demonstrate our support" and "support a neighbor."
