A pizza and fast preparation restaurant is coming to the City of Williamsport.
Land development for a Domino's owned by the Eck Family Partnership was approved by City Council.
The plan is to consolidate the three parcels at 1340 and 1370 W. Third St., said Gary Knarr, zoning administrator.
If all comes to fruition, developers will demolish the structure there and remove the sheds to construct the 5,124-square-foot Dominos.
This restaurant will have in-store pickup and drive-through only, Knarr said.
The access will be both the eastern and western sides of the property, the eastern side will have egress and ingress, where the western point will be exit only, he said.
There will be 14 parking spaces with two designated as accessibility compliant.
The property and structure will continue to be owned by Eck Family Partnership, while the franchise will remain owned by Domino's.
Additionally, there were parcel consolidations addressed. The first was a three-parcel lot consolidation owned by Pennsylvania College of Technology at 969 and 971 Second St. and 218 Park Ave.The proposal was to join the lots for a future land development that will come before council in the near future.
The city will seek a grant for the matching grant sought for slightly over $800,000 worth of planned improvements to Young's Woods Park. Valerie Fessler, grant writer, said the city applied for a state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant of $403,000 which required a 50% match. So, she also applied for a state DCED grant with a maximum award of $250,000.The DCED is a pass-through agency for the grant, which is awarded by the National Parks Service, she said. Additionally, she has reached out to a local foundation that focuses on health care and all-inclusive amenities in outdoor spaces such as this park. The National Parks Service could be making a decision in September. Councilwoman Liz Miele noted the project list of wants could be scaled back if one of two funding streams proposed falls through.
City police are hiring two more police officers, bringing the complement to 50, or one officer short of the budget.
Coleman Witherite, 23, and Johnathon Day, 23, were approved for hiring by council.
Witherite is from the Montoursville area and is the son of Rodney Witherite. He is a 2019 graduate of Lewisburg Area High School and attended Lycoming College where he completed three years of course work toward a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. It is his intention to complete his degree here in the near future. Witherite attended the Harrisburg Community College Act 120 Police Academy, where he received his Act 120 certification last year. He is currently employed as a police officer with Middletown Police Department and will be assigned Badge No. 26 in Williamsport. He is expected to be on duty on Memorial Day.
Candidate Day is a resident of the Reading area. He is the son of Ami Day-Birckhead. Day is a 2020 graduate of Antietam Middle Senior High School and is a 2024 graduate of Lycoming College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology and sociology and was a student athlete in football. Day is expected to attend Mansfield Police Academy this month and is projected to receive his Act 120 Police certification in the fall. Day will be assigned Badge No. 35. Day is expected to be starting at a rate of a police officer cadet.
The Act 120 is a program by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission.
