The Lycoming Housing Authority is going out to bid for electric and natural gas suppliers, according to MeriLyn Severson, executive director. The last time the authority did this was in 2022.
"Rates have come down slightly, so it's a good time to take a look at that," Severson told the authority's board at its monthly meeting.
"We are looking at one, two and three-year contracts with the option to renew for an additional two years," she added.
Because rates fluctuate from day-to-day, she explained the importance of locking in a price immediately. May 29 has been set as the date to receive the bids and to lock in the most favorable one. That information would then come back to the board.
A contract with Right Elevator in the amount of $73,829 for elevator maintenance was approved. They had received two bids for maintenance on five elevators at three of the housing facilities run by the authority. They include William Hepburn, Mary Slaughter and the P.D. Mitchell (505) apartments.
"We had a staff of three review the proposals and we scored those proposals on costs, technical capability and successful past performance," Severson said.
She added that Right Elevator has done work for several housing authorities in the eastern and middle part of the state and were highly rated.
The authority also approved a contract with Cholin Corporation for $93,600 for fire alarm system monitoring at the William Hepburn, Peter Herdic and Mary Slaughter apartments. The contract is for five years and it is renewable annually.
"The monitoring includes inspecting each and every device and replacing batteries and running testing on our fire alarm systems," Severson said.
In their monthly reports, it was noted that housing units owned by the authority registered no crime calls during the month of April.
