The Loyalsock Township School Board passed its final budget for the 2024-25 school year and handled several staffing issues at its monthly meeting Wednesday.
As with previous presentations, the final budget does not include a tax increase for district homeowners.
Acknowledgment of several resignations were made, including: Savannah Cajka, secondary English teacher, effective end of 2023-2024 school year; Kameryn Cornish, full-time custodian, effective May 31; Zoey Davis, substitute food service employee, effective April 19; Jessica McCoy, elementary teacher, effective June 13; Diane Smith, substitute food service employee, effective May 10; Craig Weaver, 6th grade mathematics teacher, effective June 30, 2024; as well as the retirements of Jane Hutchinson, food service employee, effective June 13 and Linda LaCoe, high school mathematics teacher, effective June 28.
With those vacancies in mind, the board approved the hiring of new staff and faculty, including: Victoria Campman as part-time career counselor, Sara Conrad as a temporary professional employee assigned as an elementary teacher, Emily Cromley as a professional employee assigned as an elementary teacher, Allison Kelly as a temporary professional employee assigned as a mathematics teacher, Kaitlyn Winton as a temporary professional employee assigned as an English teacher, all effective Aug. 20; Nathan Steele as a full-time maintenance employee, at an hourly rate of $17; Michael Zeyn as a full-time custodial employee, effective June 17, at an hourly rate of $14; Chris Engler as the boys' head wrestling coach for the 2024-2025 school year, with a stipend of $5,500
Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, female students enrolled in the district will have an opportunity to participate in wrestling, following approval of a cooperative agreement between Loyalsock Township School District and Williamsport Area School District.
The Board adopted the attached Homestead and Farmstead Exclusion Resolution for the 2024-2025 school year, effective July 1, 2024.
Two agreements were approved between the district and Nittany Learning Services, Bellefonte, including an Elementary Intervention Specialist Agreement to provide elementary intervention services for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years, as well as a Customized Learning Program/Motivational Resource Center Agreement to provide support at the secondary level for 2024-2025 school year through the 2026-2027 school year.
An agreement with River Rock Academy, LLC, Canton, for educational services during the 2024-2025 school year also received the board's blessing.
In financial matters, the board approve the attached budget of $30,356.16 from the Loyalsock Township Recreation Board for programs during the 2024-2025 school year, as well as a $30,500 proposal from Marotta/Main Architects, Lancaster, for architectural services and engineering services for improvements to the locker room and restrooms at the secondary campus
Several BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 annual agreements were extended another year, including: Special Education Agreement, IDEA Agreement, DARTS Software Agreement and the Technology Services Agreement.
It was noted that the administration recently reviewed its anti-bullying policy as well as policies regarding homeless students, Title I parent involvement, and Title IX, and will recommend revisions to Title IX Policies in accordance with new regulations in July. No revisions to the other policies are recommended at this time, the board said.
