Lycoming County DA: ‘Numerous violations’ resulted in Shamrock Bar and Grill being shut down

The Shamrock Bar and Grill, located at 762 W. Fourth St., has been shuttered by Lycoming County authorities.

The shut down comes weeks after a shooting left the windows of the establishment riddled with bullet holes.

That shooting prompted an investigation between the Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, Lycoming County District Attorney Tom Marino confirmed to the Sun-Gazette on Thursday, resulting in the business being cited for “numerous violations,” Marino said.

“We worked with the owner to give him a break and allow him to relinquish the license into a period of safekeeping, and if the shut down order was not satisfied in a timely manner, I had the authority to forcefully take the license and shut the business down.”

State statute 611 allows the District Attorney’s Office and state police, via its Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, to declare any business holding a liquor license as a nuisance after repeated disturbances to the public, permitting them and other agencies to vacate that holder’s license, Marino said.

The owner will have a certain period of time during which he can sell the license off, or he could choose to turn it over to the state, Marino explained.

“I said during my campaign that I would be tough on crime, and that’s what we’re doing,” the DA said, noting that during his previous tenure in the 90s, he had closed down three establishments for a similar reason.

“This will result in a big difference for the neighborhood,” Marino said of the shutdown, expressing his belief that property values in the area may rise.

“It will be a much safer place,” he said.
