Williamsport Municipal Water Authority’s water rate to increase this Monday, July 1
A water rate increase goes into effect on Monday, July 1, according to the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority.
To maintain the safety and reliability of the authority’s critical infrastructure that delivers clean, safe water to 51,000 customers, the authority board has voted on the increase in water rate.
The new water rate is $7.58 per thousand gallons, an increase of 22 cents per thousand gallons.
This rate equals about 77 cents more per month for the average homeowner.
The cost of 1 gallon of water remains less than 1 cent.
The Williamsport Municipal Sanitary Authority received grant funding for capital projects.
Due to the funding, there is no change in the sanitary rate.
The sanitary rate remains $14.40 per thousand gallons, the authority stated.
The authorities remain committed to keeping costs low for customers, with rates that remain among the lowest for water and sanitary service in the state, according to the authorities’ statement.
