Dilapidated house to be razed on Park Avenue in Williamsport
A vacant residential property in the 700 block of Park Avenue is going to be demolished to create a developable lot. It’s in a neighborhood close to UPMC Williamsport campus and the YMCA where residents are taking steps to improve their properties and reduce blight.
City officials with the codes department indicated the house at 743 Park Ave. was recently discussed by the city Redevelopment Authority/Land Bank Authority and has been on the Blighted Properties Review Board radar for a while.
The next step will be for PPL Co. to cut the power and the house to be immediately demolished, due to its severe condition, an official told the Sun-Gazette this week.
The house has been considered an eyesore for years by members of the city Blighted Properties Review Board The administration of Mayor Derek Slaughter is in the process of having the Blighted Property Review Board and the two authorities look at what properties can be spared, redeveloped and what might have to be razed, as in this case, according to August Memmi, city director of community and economic development.
