State lawmakers reveal over $10.2 million in funding for 6 projects
Six projects in Lycoming County were awarded a combined $10.25 million through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, according to the offices of state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, state Rep. Joe Hamm, R-Hepburn Township and state Rep. Jamie Flick, R-South Williamsport.
“Today’s awards will have a tremendous impact on our local economy by improving facilities used to train a well-qualified workforce, expanding local businesses that bring good paying jobs to our region and revitalizing old properties for new use,” Yaw said, according to a news release. “I was pleased to work with Rep. Hamm to help secure this important funding.”
“Strengthening our workforce, offering more opportunities for our youth and providing more jobs and economic growth for our area are vitally important,” Hamm said, according to a news release. “These projects will have a significant impact on the future of Lycoming County. I want to thank Sen. Yaw for working with me to get these RACP grants for Lycoming County.”
“I’m thrilled to see this grant funding returned to our area,” said Flick. “It will be put to great use as we enhance our local businesses, senior residential centers and municipal infrastructure, creating vital improvements for our community. This investment will strengthen our area and benefit everyone for years to come.”
The following entities in Lycoming County received funding:
Lycoming Career and Technology Center: $5,000,000 to make renovations and upgrades to their current facility. LycoCTC is located on the East Lycoming School District campus in Hughesville and serves students from East Lycoming, Loyalsock, Montoursville, Muncy, Benton, and Warrior Run School Districts. LycoCTC has seen significant enrollment increases in the last few years, and the expansion project will allow them to accept more students and offer additional Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming.
FamVest Partners – Lycoming Mall LLC: $1,000,000 to continue ongoing efforts to renovate and rehabilitate the former Lycoming Mall site. The developer has been making great progress with the site and has been in negotiations with potential tenants which will transform this neighborhood in Muncy Township into a thriving part of our community.
Economy Locker LLC: $750,000 for an expansion project of the Economy Locker Country Store facility in Muncy Township, Lycoming County. The project will allow Economy Locker to significantly upsize their production to allow them to sell into many more markets than they currently do.
New Trail Brewing Company: $2,000,000 for tasting room expansion.
Lycoming Community Care Inc.: $1,000,000 for the construction of an addition to Valley View Rehab and Nursing Center.
South Williamsport Development, LLC: $500,000 for a redevelopment project in South Williamsport that includes grading, stormwater management, roadway improvements and traffic safety improvements.
“Investments in these projects will provide them with the additional funding needed to complete work that will pay back dividends to the county and commonwealth through new job creation,” said Jason Fink, Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “The biggest investment and most impactful funding will be for the Lycoming Career and Technical Center. More students are choosing career and technical education pathways, creating greater demand upon the participating districts to meet their needs. Many of these high school students will go directly into the local workforce upon graduation and this investment at LycoCTC will have an almost immediate payback.”
“We are very thankful for the additional $1 million in RACP funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” said Ara Kervandjian of FamVest Partners, according to a news release. “This additional investment will allow us to continue our negotiations with national tenants to bring them to Muncy Township as part of a revitalized mixed-use community. We thank Sen. Yaw and Rep. Hamm for their continued support of our efforts and look forward to making the vision of The District at Lycoming Valley a reality.”
RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act. They must have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.
