The City of Williamsport has agreed to a settlement of $24,326 as attorney fees that were $41,397 to be paid to the lawyers representing individuals who sued the city over the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues to correct and update.
City Council recently approved a resolution authorizing the payment of the attorneys' fees in connection with the Center for Independent Living's case in federal court.
The suit was filed by Center for Independent Living of North Central Pennsylvania, Incorporated at CILNCP, Inc., ADAPT, North Central Pennsylvania, and four individuals in the U.S. Middle District Court. A consent decree was issued by Judge Matthew W. Brann.
The attorneys for the plaintiff had accrued $41,397 in fees from May 13, 2021, through the present, which the parties agreed to settle for $24,326.
The attorneys representing CIL are David Ferleger, Thomas H. Earle and Maisha Elonai. The settlement terms indicated the total payment will not exceed the aforementioned amount.
