Police: Deaths of Cogan House Township couple under investigation
TROUT RUN – The state police and the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office are investigating the deaths of a Cogan House Township couple that have been ruled a murder-suicide, Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.
At this time, investigators are not releasing the identities of the two.
A friend, serving as a power of attorney for the couple, found the two dead in their Post Road home, just off Route 184, about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and called 911, Kiessling said.
Based on evidence at the scene, the 72-year-old husband shot his 68-year-old wife and then turned the gun on himself, Kiessling said.
He said the two were both dealing with serious medical problems. “It’s a sad situation, very sad,” he added.
It is believed the power of attorney was the last one to talk with the couple on the telephone on Tuesday to set up a meeting with them. “I believe he had planned to meet with them on Tuesday, but something came up and he didn’t end up going to the home until Wednesday,” Kiessling said.
Kiessling was at the home with two of his deputies for several hours, processing the scene along with state troopers. The bodies were taken to the UPMC Williamsport Forensic Center.
