U.S. Reps Meuser, Thompson laud Trump at annual Lincoln Day dinner, say ‘many good things happening’ in D.C.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard, and U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas, shared both their appreciation and their optimism at the Lycoming County Republican Party's recent Lincoln Day dinner.

"You helped save America in November," Thompson told the crowd. "America is well on the way to being safer, stronger, wealthier and greater."

"There are so many good things happening," Meuser said.

He said the U.S. is on a path toward strong national security and an economic golden age.

"DOGE is going to save us a lot of money," Meuser said.

Thompson said illegal border crossings are down 96%, energy production is revitalized and Republicans in Congress are working to prevent the "largest tax increase in history" by preventing expiration of the tax-cut package from President Trump's first term.

"President Trump has been absolutely true to his word," Thompson said.

He added that decades of soft diplomacy were not producing the results Americans deserved.

"President Trump is pursuing diplomacy by sledgehammer and I love it," he said.

Meuser described the policies of former President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as a "disaster," rooted in ideology and not the law, and decried the "corruption" of their White House.

Meuser added that military recruitment had fallen under the Biden administration but is now back up.

"The regulations were out of control," he said.

Thompson said he is proud to lead the agriculture committee in the U.S. House and led the crowd in applauding farming families. He touted his efforts to bring whole milk back into schools and his and his colleagues' work on the farm bill and added that farming communities' needs were "ignored" under the Biden administration.

"One percent of America feeds all of America and most of North America," Meuser added on the topic.

Meuser and Thompson also spent some time looking ahead.

"What I'm concerned about is the state of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania," Meuser said.

He said Pennsylvania is falling behind on education and its business climate and losing population. He cited Florida as a state where trends are moving in the opposite direction.

"We need to replace Josh Shapiro with someone like Ron DeSantis," Meuser said.

Thompson, speaking on the 2025 election, encouraged the audience to vote against the retention of liberal judges on state courts in November.
