Community Day coming on May 4

On the official borough website of Jersey Shore, it says “with its small-town atmosphere and picturesque location, Jersey Shore is a unique, pleasant place to both call home and visit.”

Resident and community leader Tina Cooney is offering locals a chance to be part of the community and think about the future of Jersey Shore.

The Jersey Shore Community Day will take place May 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Richmond Park at 325 South Broad Street, Jersey Shore. The event is hosted by the members of the Rivertown Committee Preservation League.

The Rivertown Committee was formed, “to preserve the past, protect the present and promote the future” of the borough, according to their Facebook page. The members work with the Borough of Jersey Shore to enhance and create outdoor recreational areas.

Cooney explained the “committee is made up of 14 volunteers who meet on the third Thursday of every month.”

She said there is always room for other persons interested in lending a hand.

Cooney is on hand at every Jersey Shore Borough Council Meeting to give updates and explain to the mayor and council what the Rivertown League has discussed and what actions have been or will be taken.

“We are always seeking new members to join,” Cooney said.

As for the May 4 Community Day, she explained, “We need your ideas, insights and participation to make Jersey Shore thrive again.”

The event is a “great opportunity to get to know like-minded people in the community and help bring needed change to our borough.”

Cooney, in an email exchange, said the members of the “Rivertown Committee of Jersey Shore…[work] to improve recreational areas as well as beautification of the Borough.”

The Jersey Shore Public Library, members of the Williamsport Herb Guild, as well as the Jersey Shore Historical Society would be on hand with food vendors.

Informational kiosks and a message board to share your ideas would also be on hand, she added.

Cooney said the members of the committee are expecting “a good turnout” and look forward to “sharing of ideas.”

Cooney also said with the Rivertown Committee being a nonprofit, it isn’t too late to get involved with the event.

“We welcome monetary donations, sponsorships, or volunteers,” she said.
