County treasurer to host event for researching unclaimed property

Lycoming County Treasurer Cindy Newcomer has announced that her office will host a representative from Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s office to research unclaimed property for Lycoming County residents. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday May 8, in the Lycoming County Treasurer’s Office at 33 West Third Street, Williamsport.

Unclaimed property can be a wide variety of things including dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten safe deposit boxes, and much more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to the treasury after three years of dormancy.

The treasury is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners – including more than $15 million owed to residents of Lycoming County. The average claim is worth about $1,600, and more than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property.

Reservations are not necessary, and you do not need to bring any documents with you.

Starting at $2.99/week.
