Heartbreaking vigil in South Williamsport
Lining both sides of the bike path in South Williamsport, scores of people of all ages came together Monday night to hold a vigil for 10-year third grader and borough resident Claue Schreffler-Algofera , who has been missing since late Sunday morning and is feared to have drown in the Susquehanna River. The vigil was held at the dam at Front and Winthrop streets. It is believed the girl likely went over the dam after being pull out by the river’s heavy current while playing in the water, according to investigators.
“I did not know her. It sounds like she has touched many lives throughout our community,” borough Mayor Marlin Angelo told the crowd after hearing remarks about Claue from a crossing guard, who fought back tears as she spoke briefly to the group.
“She is touching all our lives now,” Angelo added.
Investigators will resume the search for the little girl on Tuesday.
