Lycoming County commissioners appoint new director in position salaried at $105,000
Lycoming County commissioners approved filling three positions — including a director of management operations — at their most recent meeting.
The new director of management operations, Shannon Barnes, will make $105,000 a year. Lycoming County Prison personnel assistants Julie Morlock and Jennifer Tedesco will make about $17.89 an hour and $16.40 an hour respectively.
Lycoming County Solicitor Christopher Kenyon acknowledged that an “administrative error” had initially left the personnel actions off of the meeting’s agenda.
In other staffing decisions, the commissioners appointed Kallie D. Vento and Nicholas Grimes as assistant solicitors and approved removing J. David Smith and William E. Barney from the roster of assistant solicitors.
Commissioners approved purchasing $25,656 in carbonate scale from State Chemical Solutions.
“We’ve got to use a chemical to keep them soft and keep them cleaned out,” Gary Staggert of Lycoming County Resource Management Services said of the use of carbonate scale on waste disposal lines.
Commissioners also approved submitting a grant application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for extension of the Susquehanna River Walk.
“We’re seeking a $1.5 million grant,” Jenny Picciano said.
“The River Walk is heavily used each day,” Commissioner Scott Metzger noted.
Commissioners approved a new water service connection at the County Farm for $7,060 and awarded a bid of $3,252.75 by Sam Tell & Son Inc. to purchase and install three built-in dishwashers at the new county coroner’s office.
Metzger noted the cost of the water service connection will eventually be covered by the sale of a residence at the County Farm complex.
“That’s our ultimate plan is to put the house on the market,” Metzger said.
County officials also noted the dishwashers are a necessity and already were factored into the coroner’s office budget.
“We have the funding, ” Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling said. “We don’t have much of a choice.”
The commissioners also approved agreements with Centre County Youth Services Bureau and CHOR Youth and Family Services Inc., approved the regional solid waste plan in conjunction with state Department of Environmental Protection grant modification authorization and tabled an invoice from Larson, Kellett and Associates for about $39,300.
Williamsport resident Tony Cooper questioned why minutes from commissioners’ meetings were not being added to the county website and asked for a copy of the previous meeting’s minutes.
Commissioner Marc Sortman said changes in personnel had led to a staff member still learning how to handle the minutes and Metzger said they would try to give Cooper the copy of the requested minutes that day.
The next meeting of the Lycoming County commissioners will be at 10 a.m., July 31 in the commissioners’ board room at 33 W. Third St.
