Charity event to be held in late August for Montoursville teenager

A charity golf tournament for Aubrey Slagus, 16, of Montoursville will be held on Aug. 30 at White Deer Golf Course. The Montoursville Area High School sophomore was a competitive dancer until epilepsy interfered with her dancing ability. The teen also loves to cheer and play golf.

Aubrey began to have seizure brain activity around her thirteenth birthday. During the last three years, her seizure activity has worsened. She has undergone two brain surgeries and has been in and out of hospitals for a series of tests. One of the brain surgeries was to locate where the seizures were originating. The second surgery was to insert a RNS device to try and prevent seizures. Aubrey now has daily seizures and is on multiple medications for epilepsy after having failed eight different medications.

The golf tournament will be held at White Deer Golf Course with registration at 9 a.m. and tee-off at 10 a.m. Volunteers, gift sponsors, hole sponsors and gift baskets are needed.

A dinner will be held for those participating in the golf tournament on Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Genetti Hotel, with live music with Aubrey’s grandfather Pete DeSanto, playing the drums with his band the Loose Cats.
