Montgomery Area School District is ‘excited to welcome our students back’

The Montgomery Area School Board approved several agreement and staffing positions at its recent August meeting.

“We are excited to welcome our students back to the building and are looking forward to a wonderful 25-26 school year,” Superintendent Dr. Joseph Stoudt said in an email to the Sun-Gazette.

A letter of release to Clinton Township was given the board’s blessing, relieving Clinton Township from liability for the School’s connection to the well on the school property, serving the MAACC and the new school, due to the approval of the Land Development Plan by the township. The new school will receive water from the same well in the same vicinity that has served the MAACC for the past several years.

The letter, however, specifically states that it does not release the Montgomery Water Authority from providing safe drinking water to the school in accordance with its license from the state or from any issues that arise due to its failure to do so,” according to the meeting’s agenda.

“Construction work has begun on the new Junior/Senior High School at the MAACC. We are asking for patience and cooperation as we work to expand and improve our facilities,” Stoudt said in an email to the Sun-Gazette.

Of other matters, the board gave approval to a contract with Blast IU 17 for a Division of Educational Planning personnel for the 2025-26 school year; agreements with the Lycoming-Clinton Joinder Board and the district for student assistance program and school-based outreach services, respectively; a contract with River Rock Academy and the Montgomery Area School District for the 2025-26 school year.

In financial matters, the board approved a quote from Anthem Sports LLC for Alumagoal Euro Stadium Goals, in the amount of $6,394.35.

In staffing matters, the board approved A. Daniel Lynch, as part-time special education van driver; Tara Condit, as a teacher mentor for the 2025-26 school year; Peggi Reynolds, as a part-time cafeteria worker; Kurt Jones, as a 7th grade math teacher, at a salary of $76,599; Kaitlyn McCarty, as a professional behavior technician, at a salary of $40,000; Kyle Fera as a full-time school police officer, at a rate of $40 per hour; Joseph Akers, as a substitute school police officer, at a rate of $40 per hour; Erin Burdick as a part-time restaurant assistant; Josiah Scarfo-Barakat as a part-time elementary special education paraprofessional; and acknowledged the resignations of Amanda Lebo, as a 7th grade math teacher, and Eleanor Stutzman, as a part-time para-professional; as well as a number of advisors with stipends ranging from $1,550 to $2,825.

The next board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
