Liberty Church to host prayer vigil in memory of the late Charlie Kirk

Liberty Church in Williamsport will honor the late Charlie Kirk in a community prayer vigil to be held Friday at 7 p.m. followed by commentary from local faith leaders at 7:30 p.m. Located at 102 E. Third St., the vigil will be held on the sidewalk surrounding the church. The community is invited to attend.

“Charlie Kirk was one of the biggest, most influential leaders and Christians in the world. I have received so many messages since his death and people are shocked and mourning. I just believe that people are hurting and need some healing and hope,” said Rev. Lon Williams, who is a co-pastor at the non-denominational Christian church.

Those attending the vigil are encouraged to bring flags, pictures, flowers and candles.

“This vigil is for the community. We are not carrying out our agenda as a church,” said Lon. “People are not going to get preached at.”

During the vigil, there will be prayer, along with patriotic and funereal music. In addition, video clips of Kirk will be played.

Following the vigil, Lon and Rev. Dawn Williams, Lon’s wife and co-pastor, will address attendees.

In addition, Jeff Stroehmann, a Woodward Township supervisor and local Christian leader, will share some words on Charlie’s impact on our nation and world. Additional speakers are expected but have not yet been finalized.

“It will be around 15 minutes long. I will speak on Charlie and pray for the people and cast a wide net of hope,” said Lon.

Lon expects a couple hundred people to attend based on the reaction Liberty Church got from their Facebook post about the vigil.

“I hope the community has some healing and that people are brought together. I hope that people aren’t so angry and are a bit more unified and patriotic,” he said.” We are a country of ‘in God we trust.’ Our community is better united rather than divided.”
