Montoursville school board hires assistant principal at recent meeting
The Montoursville Area School Board at its recent meeting approved the hiring of an administrator and acted on other personnel matters and business.
By a vote of 7-1, Erica Hoyt was approved as an assistant principal at an annual salary of $90,000.
Hoyt replaces Ronda Albert.
Voting in favor of Hoyt’s hiring were Daniel Albert, Sharon Meyer, Todd Badger, John Houseknecht, Thad Eisenhower, David Young, and Doug Gardner.
Brenda Oberheim was absent.
Tina McCloy voted no.
Before voting, she said she wanted to first see Hoyt’s resume, application, and recommendations she received for the job.
Superintendent Dan Taormina, who noted he recommended her hiring, said he didn’t have those documents with him.
“She has worked here before,” he said. “She is very familiar with the district.”
Hoyt, who taught at BLaST IU 17, thanked the board for her hiring.
The following were approved as substitute teachers: Brooke Greiner, Diane Souter, Maja Susanj, and Makennah McCourt.
The board approved contract extensions including tenure to four employees who have successfully completed three years of satisfactory service on temporary professional contracts: Lauren Caputo, Erica Hepburn, Faith Toohey, and Megan Daily.
Caleb MacWinnie was approved as a strength and conditioning coach at a stipend of $2,600.
The board approved a one-year agreement with Kidventures Inc. and a $5,999 contract with Inventionland Education for the innovation lab.
The board met in an executive session following the meeting to consider personnel matters.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23.
