State police have confirmed that Eric Diaz, 49, of Reading, who was critically injured in Monday afternoon’s freak crash on Route 15 in Armstrong Township, died late Tuesday afternoon in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Diaz was a front-seat passenger in a southbound Mazda CX-5 driven by Jessica Stebbins, 38, also of Reading, when a tire from a northbound car broke loose, bounced over a Jersey barrier and crashed into the couple’s windshield, police said.

Stebbins and a juvenile riding in the back seat of the car are recovering from non-life threatening injuries, police said.
