Williamsport teenager injured in early-morning shooting Monday

An 18-year-old man is recovering from injuries he suffered early Monday morning when he was shot in his home by a passerby in the 1700 block of Memorial Avenue, according to city Assistant Police Chief Jason Bolt. Police were still looking for the gunman, he said.

Officers rushed to Memorial Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. to investigate reports of multiple gunshots and the sound of tires screeching, according to a news release.

Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, an additional call was received reporting a gunshot victim inside a nearby home, police said. Officers responded to the residence and located the injured teen, suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower torso, police said.

The victim was transported to UPMC Williamsport by ambulance.

Bolt said it was unknown if the gunman fired into the home from a vehicle or while standing outside the property. Investigators were still trying to determine if the gunman specifically targeted the house. No one else was injured.

Detectives and forensic personnel also responded to the scene to collect evidence before clearing the area. This incident remains under active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Agent Laura Kitko at 570-327-7558 or lkitko@cityofwilliamsport.org, the new release added.
