Bocce ball co-op team coming to South Williamsport Area School District

The South Williamsport Area School District will see the addition of a Unified Bocce Ball Team to its roster of sports teams, following board approval at its monthly meeting.

The winter sport team will be a co-op with the Loyalsock Township School District, with games beginning on Dec. 10.

“I want to give a shout out to Ms. Bastian for leading the charge on this,” said Superintendent Dr. Eric Briggs.

“If you get the chance to come out and see the team, it’s really neat. If you go to other schools and see it, there’s quite a bit of community support,” he said. “We’re excited to get our first team out there. It’s really taking off in schools across the county.”

“You have regular education students, you have students with disabilities that meet certain criteria,” Briggs said.

In other actions, the board approved the Wellness Policy Assessment Tool and Report Templates as created by the district’s Wellness Committee; an eQUIP Online Learning Services agreement with BlaST Intermediate Unit 17 for Mounty Academy for the 2025-26 school year; the 2025-26 junior/senior high school TSI Non-Title School Plan; the disposal of old fitness center equipment and weights; a one-year agreement with Nittany Learning Services for a counseling support staff person at Central Elementary School for one to two days a week during the 2025-26 school year; and first and second readings of a number of district policies.

In financial matters, the board approved an amendment to the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) with SitelogIQ Energy Services Inc. for continued mechanical improvements at the junior/senior high school, at a cost not to exceed $2,300,000; and a quote from B’s Quality Painting for painting of the high school fitness center and the weight room at Rommelt Elementary School at a cost of $17,594 and $9,990 respectively.
