Montgomery Borough impacted by water main break

The 800-plus customers of the Montgomery Borough Water Authority were impacted by a water main break that occurred just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to Borough Manager and Water Coordinator Donna Miller.
The break, along a 10 inch line at Montgomery and Second streets in front of The Station House restaurant, was the result of normal movement of the ground in an area that sees big trucks pass through often, Miller said.
A set of train tracks also sits adjacent to the break.
The Borough will have bottled water on hand for residents in the affected area in front of the borough maintenance garage, Miller said.
At this point, a boil advisory has not been issued, but Miller said that one is expected to be put into place at some point today.
The break resulted in the cancellation of classes at all schools in the Montgomery Area School District.
It is unknown how quickly the problem can be stemmed, however, work is ongoing to resolve the break, and emergency crews are in place, helping to direct traffic.
“It’s getting fixed, but please be patient,” Miller urged.
“As soon as I get press releases and stuff from our water operator, I will be putting them out on our Facebook page, our website and on the radio,” the Borough Manager said.
“I will be doing a mass call as soon as I get the proper language and everything from my water operator and I’ll keep everybody updated as soon as I know anything,” Miller said.
