Muncy School District’s budget deficit minimizes with approved state spending plan
With the recent long-awaited approval of a state budget, school districts across Pennsylvania will no longer be left in the dark about funding educational programs.
For Muncy School District, the state dollars allocation will amount to nearly $300,000.
Andrew Seese, Muncy business administrator, reported to the school board at its November meeting that $150,000 of state money will fund special education and basic education programs as well as the Ready to Learn Block Grant.
The district will also see savings of $135,000 for cyber school funding, at least based on last year’s enrollment figures.
“This brings down the (district’s budget) deficit to a manageable amount,” he said.
The state Legislature passed the Pennsylvania spending plan earlier this month, more than four months past the June 30 deadline.
In other matters, the board approved indoor scoreboard sponsorship agreements of $15,000 each with the following businesses: SitelogIQ Energy Services Inc.; ESS Northeast, LLC; Construction Specialties Inc.; and ServiceMaster by Holobinko.
Under the agreements, businesses pay the school district for display advertising on the gymnasium scoreboard during athletic events.
In personnel matters, the board approved the resignation of Jacob Seagraves, custodian.
The board approved the hirings of Jessie Crinite, food service worker, $15 per hour; Dalton Fahey, custodian, $15 per hour; and Danielle Caporale, substitute custodian, $14 per hour.
The following were approved for athletics-related positions: Patrick Sparks, assistant varsity girls wrestling coach; Carrianna Diehl, head winter varsity cheer coach; and Katie McGuire, winter cheer coach mentor.
The board will hold its annual reorganization meeting Dec. 1. The next regular monthly board meeting is set for Dec. 8.
