Identity of motorcyclist killed in Market Street crash released

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette The city intersection of Market and Packer streets was closed to traffic for just over three hours following the fatal crash that occurred late Monday afternoon.

A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle accident that occurred at Market and Packer streets about 5:40 p.m. Monday, according to city police.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office as Drew Geier, 33, of Williamsport, was traveling north on Market Street when his motorcycle and a Buick LaCrosse collided, police said.

The southbound car’s driver had pulled out in front of the motorcyclist from Packer Street, police said.

Following the impact, the motorcyclist was ejected and thrown about 75 feet, landing in the southbound lane, where he was run over by a southbound Honda CRV, whose driver was unable to stop, police said.

City firefighters, police and UPMC Williamsport paramedics rushed to the scene. Geier was quickly loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital’s emergency room, where he was pronounced dead about 6:20 p.m. of blunt force trauma injuries despite life-saving efforts performed by first responders and medical staff, according to a deputy county coroner.

Assisting police at the crash scene were state police accident reconstructionists as well as employees from the state Department of Transportation and the city’s Streets and Parks Department.

Motorists were detoured around the crash site until investigators completed their work at the scene about 9 p.m. The Buick, the Honda and the motorcycle were towed to the police department’s impound lot as the investigation continues. Police have not yet released the identities of the drivers of the Buick or the Honda.
