South Williamsport Area School board holds re-organization meeting
Following up on November’s elections, the South Williamsport Area School Board held their reorganization Tuesday night.
Re-elected board members Ben Brigandi, Cathy Bachman, Jason Lewis and Steven Rupert, as well as newly elected member Dr. Kimberly Kohler were then administered the oath of office.
Current President Todd Engel was retained for another four-year term, as was Vice President Rupert.
The board then moved on to its only agenda item of the night, staffing, during which they acknowledged the retirement of maintenance employee Richard Edmonston, effective Jan. 2, 2026.
“He’s priceless,” remarked district Director of Buildings and Grounds Bill Reifsnyder. “If you’ve been in this district for many years, I really don’t have to say a whole lot about what he does. He does it all.”
Bachman shared a story of when Edmonston “saved” a PTO fall festival by rigging up electrical sockets from the drop ceiling, helping to remove extension cords run across the floor that presented a tripping hazard.
“He literally just pulled wires down, made electrical sockets, taped them up against the wall and said, ‘here you go. I’ll come back tomorrow morning and put them back up correctly,'” she said.
“I’ve enjoyed working with Dick the years I’ve been here,” district Superintendent Dr. Eric Briggs said. “He always had a smile on his face anytime you’d ask him to do something. And if you couldn’t do it, he would be more than happy to help you figure it out.”
“He will be sorely missed, but it’s well deserved,” Briggs said, noting that it will be a challenge to find someone as knowledgeable as Edmonston.
The next school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.
