Williamsport school board reorganizes, re-elects Baer as president
The newly-elected members of the Williamsport Area School Board were officially sworn in as required by law and the board elected leadership during this month’s meeting pertaining to reorganization.
Sworn in by Judge of the Court of Common Pleas Judge Eric Linhardt were: Lauren Montgomery, Nazirah C. Purnell, Jamie L. Sanders and Daniella Weaver. Rick Douglass had been sworn in prior to the meeting.
Lori Baer was re-elected as board president and Sanders was chosen as vice president. Appointments of board members to various boards and commissions were also approved and the following voting meeting dates for 2026 were okayed: Jan. 13; Feb. 10; March 17; April 14; May 12; June 9; July 14; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 13; Nov. 10 and Dec. 1. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the District Service Center, 2780 West Fourth St.
In the regular portion of the meeting under curriculum items, the board approved the following items: the purchase of 117 additional 10-month single course reusable enrollment licenses for Edgenuity from Imagine Learning at a cost of $64,350; the Commonwealth University college algebra class for district students with the cost of the course the responsibility of parents; an agreement with the American Red Cross to use district facilities as shelters and delivery sites for disaster relief efforts in the event of a formally declared disaster; an agreement with Pyramid Healthcare, Inc. to provide special education programming at the rate of $315 per day; and the settlement agreement with Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School for educational services rendered during the 2016-17 school year in the sum of $541.
They also approved the production staff and musician for the high school musical, “Hadestown: Teen Edition” as follows with their position and stipend: Matt Radspinner, Carolina Roy, Tim Breon, Rebecca Ciabattari and Don Fisher, pit, $450 each; Theresa Kendall, choreography, $1,250; John Stugrin, set design, $500; and Ryan Bulgarelli, lighting, $250.
Under personnel, the board approved filling the following positions at the rates of pay listed:
Randy J. Zangara, full-time associate principal at the high school, $125,584; Amber M. Wolfe, full-time special education teacher, $62,100; Amy E. Woodley, full-time administrative support II at Jackson Primary, $33,390; and a revision to last month’s agenda, Jessica Hulslander, full-time school counselor at the middle school, $58,688.
Katlyn Harrison was approved as a long-term substitute at Cochran Primary at a rate of $58,688.
Substitute teachers and their rates of pay approved were: Diane E. Welch, certified retiree, $200 per day; Shawna L. Schroy, certified, $150 per day; and Autumn R. Osborne and Cameron C. Pardoe, non-certified, $125 per day.
An agreement with Barry Isett & Associate, Inc. for quality assurance program testing and/or inspection activities for the new high school stadium and tennis project at a cost of $112,583 was approved. Funds will come from bond proceeds.
It was noted at the beginning of the meeting that the stadium project has been given the notice to proceed.
