The Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority at its January meeting approved a $1.38 million spending plan for 2026.

With revenues of $1.18 million, the budget reflects a deficit.

However, airports officials expressed confidence that other revenue sources can be found to make up that shortfall.

Authority Chair Frank Pellegrino noted that there is the potential for leasing additional space at the Williamsport Regional Airport to companies.

Approximately $700,000 of budget revenues come through the airport’s existing building leases.

Joe Hamm, a member of the Authority’s Finance Committee, said he felt comfortable about approving this year’s budget.

“We are in a position to pass the budget knowing we still have work to do,” he said. “I think we are moving where we need to move.”

Authority member William Martin said he felt it would be prudent in the future to keep the board updated on its financial matters.

In other matters, the Authority agreed to meet with the Lycoming County Commissioners for informational sessions on four dates during the year. The first session will be Jan. 16.

Airport Executive Director Eric McKitish reported that Montoursville Borough Council recently voted to vacate Airport Road authorizing the airport to accept and maintain the road.

The road extending from Loyalsock Avenue is targeted for resurfacing this year.

McKitish noted that the airport completed 42 of 50 commercial airline flights during December.

The cancelled flights, he said, were attributed to weather conditions.

McKitish also reported that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced facial comparison technology as part of the screening process at select airports including the Williamsport Regional Airport.

The Authority met in an executive session following the meeting to consider lease issues.

The next Authority meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at the airport terminal building.

Starting at $2.99/week.
