Camp Susque director to host workshop for nonprofit heads
“Nonprofit leaders who are passionate about their mission but unsure how to fund it are invited to attend Fundraising 101, a practical, hands-on workshop hosted by Covation Center,” according to a news release.
The workshop, on Jan. 22, will be led by Peter Swift, executive director of Camp Susque. The workshop will be held in person at the Covation Center.
“Fundraising is often viewed as a necessary burden that pulls time and energy away from mission-driven work,” the news release said. “Fundraising 101 challenges that mindset and replaces it with a more effective approach rooted in proven sales and marketing principles. Participants will learn how techniques commonly used in for-profit settings can be adapted for nonprofits to attract funders, strengthen messaging, and increase giving — without losing sight of their mission.”
Swift brings extensive real-world experience to the session.
“Under his leadership, Camp Susque has seen dramatic fundraising growth, and he has shared these same strategies with camps, churches, ministries, and nonprofits across the country through national and regional conferences,” the news release said. “His approach focuses on clarity, confidence, and relationship-building rather than pressure or transactional asks.”
For those who want to continue building on the foundation introduced in Fundraising 101, Covation Center will host a follow-up session, Fundraising 102, on Jan. 23. This second workshop focuses on what happens after identifying someone who is interested in supporting the organization. Participants will explore how to move beyond the initial ask and into meaningful donor conversations that build trust, address hesitations, and create lasting relationships. The session emphasizes turning one-time gifts into ongoing support and advocacy.
“Attendees of Fundraising 102 are encouraged to come prepared with their mission story, their biggest challenge around donor conversations, and an openness to practice and refine their approach in a supportive environment,” the news release said. “Together, the two workshops are designed to help nonprofit leaders move from uncertainty to confidence, and from fundraising as a chore to fundraising as a core part of their mission’s success.”
Organizations are encouraged to register for both workshops to gain the full benefit of the two-day series. Space is limited, and advance registration is required. To learn more and register, visit https://membership.covationcenter.org/events.
