Hamm, Yaw help forward over $404K to recreation, conservation projects

State Rep. Joe Hamm, R-Hepburn Township, and state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock, helped to forward over $404,000 awarded to recreation and conservation projects in Lycoming and Sullivan counties through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program, a press release said.

“I was pleased to work with Senator Yaw to secure this funding for projects in Lycoming and Sullivan County,” Hamm said. “Our area is home to world-class recreation, and these grants will further enhance opportunities for people to enjoy more of what we have to offer.”

“Investing in our local parks and recreation facilities enhances quality of life and strengthens our communities,” Yaw said. “These improvements will provide families and residents with safe, modern spaces to enjoy for years to come and I’m thankful to Rep. Hamm for working with me to secure this funding.”

The following projects were awarded funding:

Lycoming County

— Jersey Shore Borough will receive $82,800 for the development of Richmond Park. Work will include construction of a pavilion, internal loop trail and parking area, installation of lighting, ADA access, landscaping, project signage and other related site improvements.

Sullivan County

— Cherry Township will be awarded $100,000 for further development of Cherry Township Park in Sullivan County. Work will include construction of pedestrian walkways and a parking area, installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing, ADA access, landscaping, project signage and other related site improvements.

— Eagles Mere Conservancy Inc. will receive $221,900 to use as payment toward the acquisition of approximately 75 acres in Eagles Mere Borough and Shrewsbury Township, Sullivan County for open space and passive recreation.

The C2P2 is funded with a variety of state and federal funding sources, including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, which includes Key-Community and Key-Land Trust; the Environmental Stewardship Fund; the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund; Pennsylvania Trails Fund; Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program; and the ATV Restricted Management Account Fund.
