Muncy board applies for grant and hires assistant principal

The Muncy School Board at its recent meeting approved a resolution to apply for a $5 million Public School Facility Improvement Grant for roof restoration projects.

School officials noted the roofs of both the high school and the elementary school are being targeted for upgrades.

The grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, if approved, would require local matching money from operating or bond funds.

The board voted to appoint Jason Gresh as Muncy Junior/Senior High School Assistant Principal at a yearly salary of $95,000.

Gresh, a mathematics teacher in the district for 18 years who has served as a soccer and basketball coach, will begin the job July 1.

A job description for the assistant principal was also approved by the board.

In other personnel matters, accepted the retirements of elementary teachers Christine Geiger and John Tewksbury, effective at the end of the school year.

School directors approved the resignation of cafeteria monitor Theresa Haddon and the hiring of Chloe Skaluba as a substitute cafeteria monitor at $14 per hour.

The following were approved for head coaching positions for spring sports:

• Kristine Rosario, boys varsity tennis

• Katelyn Herron, girls junior high soccer

• Ben Burns, boys junior high soccer

• Marah Biddle, junior high field hockey

The following were approved for assistant coaching positions for spring sports:

• Jim Nuss, varsity boys tennis

• Dawson Fox and Joe Lowe, varsity baseball

• Kassidy Lenhart and Ellen Dincher, varsity softball.

• Armando Sassano, junior high boys soccer

• Jason Gresh and John Karichner, junior high girls soccer

• Rachel Yohn, junior high field hockey

The board approved the single audit package for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.

The board approved the academic and school board meeting calendars for the 2026-2027 school year.

A $5,850 agreement with ParentSquare was approved by school directors for a soft launch of its programming beginning July 1. The district is to work with ParentSquare’s team to set up data integration, configure settings, and begin account rollout to the district and users.

The board met in an executive session following the meeting to consider personnel matters.
