Council OKs development plan for Via Bella restaurant
A restaurant is closer to becoming a reality on Mulberry Street in Williamsport.
City Council approved a land development plan for the future franchise that will be identified later.
The request was from Allan Emerson Co. for the property located at the corner of Mulberry and Via Bella, presented by Gary Knarr, zoning administrator, codes administrator.
It is within the Central Business District.
The proposal is for a 36 foot by 56 foot restaurant, he said. The building will house an office as well as a dining area. There will be provision for 17 parking spaces, though it is not a requirement for parking within the district. The parking will be angled, Knarr said.
The plan was reviewed by Eric Smithgall, engineer with the Williamsport Municipal Stormwater Authority, Bill Scott, city engineer, Scott Williams, city planner with the department of community and economic development and by the city planning commission.
Council received an updated plan after there were questions from the planning officials addressing several issues.
Several building permit-related issues will also go back before council as part of the project.
Councilwoman Liz Miele, chair of the finance committee, asked what the restaurant would be called but those details are not disclosed at this time as it is a franchise restaurant, Knarr explained.
During the meeting, Knarr was recognized for his 15 years of city service and his military service as he announced his intention to retire from his position in the city.
