Lycoming County commissioners table agreements to collect municipal taxes
An agenda item to approve agreements for the collection by the county of local municipal taxes for 24 municipalities was tabled at the request of Commissioner Marc Sortman, at this week’s Lycoming County commissioners meeting.
Sortman indicated that the county’s treasurer, Cindy Newcomer, had asked for the pause on approval.
If it is approved, the service would bring in some revenue for the county, but it would also mean additional work for Newcomer’s office, Sortman said.
“One thing that the treasurer was asking for was some raises for her team to handle the additional municipalities and that raise has not been approved,” Sortman said.
The vote was tabled pending further discussion regarding payroll.
The following municipalities are part of the tabled agreement: Armstrong Township, Bastress Township, Brady Township, Cascade Township, Duboistown Borough, Fairfield Township, Franklin Township, Gamble Township, Hepburn Township, Jersey Shore, Jordan Township, Lewis Township, Limestone Township, McNett Township, Montgomery Borough, Montoursville Borough, Moreland Township, Muncy Borough, Nippenose Township, Penn Township, Picture Rocks Borough, Pine Township, Plunketts Creek, Salladasburg Borough, South Williamsport, Upper Fairfield Township, Washington Township, and Woodward Township.
In what Commissioner Scott Metzgar characterized as a continuing effort to “clean up the TDA (Table of Distributions and Authorizations), the commissioners along with Nikki Gotschall, county controller, acting as the Salary Board, approved several changes during the meeting.
The changes included: deleting two part-time clerk III positions in the Treasurers’ office; adding a temporary part-time clerk position, not to extend 90 days, in the Register and Recorder’s Office; deleting a temporary GIS special projects position in the Department of Public Safety; adding a public safety GIS program specialist position (100% grant funded) to the Department of Public Safety; retitling a clerk III to legal assistant in the Public Defender’s Office; deleting a technology specialist/DPS position in Information Services; deleting a clerk IV position in the Court; deleting an executive secretary position in the Courts until a fifth judge takes the bench; and removing two pretrial probation officer positions in Pretrial Services.
Under personnel, the board approved the following: Taylor Sheleman, full-time correctional office at the Prison, a union position, $20 per hour; Alysa Young, legal assistant in the Public Defender’s Office, $15.61 per hour; and Jena Rishel, full-time emergency management administrative coordinator in Public Safety, $34,199 per year.
The next commissioners’ meeting will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 26 at the Commissioners’ Board Room, 3rd floor Third Street Plaza, 33 W. Third St.
